Kelly Long’s Background

Ventura County Supervisor District 3

My second term as your elected County Supervisor has been a productive one that has been marked by overcoming some of the most significant challenges Ventura County has ever seen.  Shortly after being elected, Ventura County was hit by one of the most devastating wildfires in California's history.  The response and recovery have been a priority and it has been an honor to work beside our first responders and law enforcement to restore and rebuild our damaged community.  This became a daily job, attending briefings, coordinating and visiting emergency facilities, keeping the public informed on social media, and assisting local governments and non-profits to keep our community #VenturaCountyStrong.  A lot has been accomplished but our work continues. As an entrepreneur, business executive, and school board trustee, I have used my experience in leadership, management, engineering, education, and business to fight for a better Ventura County.  I remain committed to addressing my priorities fiscal responsibility and good stewardship of our economy as well as improving public safety, increasing government transparency and protecting our environment.  All elected officials should be a role for how public discourse is conducted and I am proud of my record and conduct as your elected representative.

Accessibility to constituents is also extremely important which is why I have lived up to my commitment to be the "voice of the public" in forming my positions.  To that end, I have held several town hall forums across my district, including the most remote corners, like Lockwood Valley, to ensure residents have access to me and my staff.  I also coordinated "satellite" office hours across the district to make sure that all of the communities I represent have access to my office and can share their thoughts and concerns in the most convenient way possible.

Often, the best way to learn about what is happening in our community is to see it first hand and visit all of the amazing local operations that are critical to the county's success.  Regular visits to Naval Base Ventura County, the Toland Landfill, Ventura Ranch KOA, Piru Neighborhood Council, Chambers of Commerce, Boys & Girls Clubs, local service organizations, schools, businesses, farms, and agricultural operations (to name just a few) keep me connected to the needs of my constituents.

I have also influenced important local policy through service on dozens of boards and commissions.  A few include the Ventura County Transportation Commission (VCTC), Fox Canyon Groundwater Sustainablility Agency, Fillmore-Piru Basic Groundwater Sustainability Agency, Ventura County Employee Retirement Association (VCERA), Airport Authority for Camarillo and Oxnard, Ventura County Medical Center (VCMC) Oversight Board, Regional Defense Partnership for 21st Technology (RDP-21), and very active at the state and federal level as Ventura County's representative to the California State Association of Counties and National Association of Counties. Also served on Economic Development Collaborative, Children and Family First Commission of Ventura County (First 5), and CSUCI Site Authority Board.

Real Business Experience

Kelly is an experienced businesswoman who holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from CSULB and holds six patents. She managed a $16 million department and understands what it takes to effectively manage budgets, find cost savings, and efficiently manage major projects.

Active Mother

Kelly has volunteered and held board positions on multiple PTA boards, PVST Swim Team, Channel Islands Rowing Club, & StemYes.Org. Like other busy moms she also shuffles the kids from place to place, which is why she wants to do something about the traffic in Ventura County, making it easier for working families.

Past School Board President

As President of the Pleasant Valley School District, Kelly balanced the budget while helping improve test scores. She helped bring healthier food choices to the cafeteria, developed a hands-on gardening program and improved school technology with outside fundraising.

Throughout her professional and private life, Kelly has been effective in searching out innovative and creative programs with the funds available. She believes it is important to make strategic goals that include long-term planning and communication. In short, she’s a “doer” not a “talker.”

Kelly has been working in Camarillo since 1994 where she started at Royce Medical as a Mechanical Engineer.  Later, she and her husband, two young daughters, and two dogs bought a home here to be with family and build a strong community around them. They enjoy living here and take full advantage of the weather and outdoors spaces to do everything from hiking, biking and surfing to hanging out on the soccer fields and at the new Adolfo Camarillo High School Pool.

When re-elected for the Board of Ventura County Supervisors, Kelly vows to continue investing the time to make our families and communities successful. With goals and teamwork, she knows we can strive for the highest level of excellence!
